CONTRACEPTION/FAMILY PLANNING
Most routine contraceptive care can be provided by the nurses and doctors. For IUD (coils etc) please enquire for more information at reception.
EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION (Morning after pill)
Remember that we can offer you emergency contraception after exposure for up to 72 hours after the event. Please seek advice from your doctor as soon as possible. This service is also available directly from the local pharmacies and is free of charge from them.
CERVICAL SMEARS
Our practice nurses carry out all cervical smears.
MINOR SURGERY
Dr John, assisted by our practice nurses, provides minor surgery for our patients usually on a Friday morning by appointment. Your doctor will advise you if you need to make an appointment for a minor surgery procedure.
MIDWIFE
Our midwives Inger Southorn and Jane Dobson, are available for all antenatal checks by appointment every tuesday and Thursday afternoon. They also hold a booking in clinc every Friday afternoon at Kenilworth Children's Centre on Bertie Road. They visit all new mums and babies in their own homes. BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS
All patients over the age of 45 years should have an annual blood pressure check. Please make an appointment with the health care assistant if you have not had this.
CHILD HEALTH CHECKS
Dr Prosser, Dr Archibald, Dr kelly, Dr Marwaha and Dr Ceurstemont carry out child health checks.
HEALTH CHECKS
If you are over 75 years and have not been to the practice for over a year, please make an appointment with the nurse for an annual health check. At any age, if you have not been to the practice for over three years, please make an appointment with the nurse for a health check.
BABY VACCINATIONS
Our practice nurses carry out baby immunisations in an appointed clinic. An appointment for this can be made at reception. It is essential that you attend with the baby's red book or vaccination may be refused.
HOLIDAY VACCINATIONS
Our practice nurses carry out holiday vaccinations. They will be happy to advise you which vaccinations are required and when these should be done. Please make an appointment with the nurse as soon as you are aware that you are travelling abroad as some injections are carried out over a period of time.
A charge will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered by the NHS. This service is private and the appointments are not considered urgent, therefore they can only be booked into non-urgent spaces.
YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION
The Abbey Medical Centre is an authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre.
DIABETIC CLINIC
This is run by our practice nurses and appointments are available every day.
ASTHMA CLINIC
This is run by our practice nurses and appointments are available every day.
CHARGES FOR MEDICAL CERTIFICATES, PRIVATE MEDICAL REPORTS AND FORMS
Letters and forms for non-general medical services are charged at BMA agreed rates to cover doctors', secretarial and administration time. These services are not covered by the NHS.
PRIVATE PATIENTS/FOREIGN VISITORS
Foreign visitors may be treated as private patients. Please enquire at the reception desk for the current fee scale.
OTHER SERVICES
Audiology (hearing tests) is available at the surgery: This service is private, being paid for by the patient (or their health care insurance company if approved). The qualifications of therapists working at the practice are checked and approved by the partners to ensure this additional service is of a high standard. The Surgery sometimes makes rooms available to other types of Practitioners who may be able to offer an additional non-NHS service to patients.
